RunningLondonfor StreetVet

I ran my first marathon in October. In April I'm running London to raise £2,500 for StreetVet, who give free vet care to the pets of people experiencing homelessness.

Two vets and a backpack

That's how StreetVet started in 2016: two vets and a backpack full of veterinary supplies.

Today it's a national charity with more than 500 volunteer vets and vet nurses. They give essential and emergency vet care, free, to the pets of people experiencing homelessness.

For someone with nowhere to live, a dog is often the one thing that stays the same. StreetVet keeps them healthy, and keeps them together.

Sponsor the humiliation

On Saturday 19 December I'm running a parkrun in fancy dress. My son chose the costume. I'm going as a carrot.

He's four. He had six options: chilli, banana, ballerina, chicken, flamingo and carrot. He went carrot and laughed for about a minute. I had no say and no veto.

You sponsor it, StreetVet gets the money, and I run 5k as a carrot. In public. On a Saturday morning. Possibly in the rain.

I'm also going for a PB. My 5k best is 25:57, and I'm training for it from next week. Doing it dressed as a root vegetable is the part I haven't thought through.

The photos and the time go on this page afterwards. That's the deal.

  • Nobody priced the carrot. My made-up odds board had Paw Patrol as the 2/1 favourite. The carrot wasn't on it.
  • It's basically hi-vis. The marshals will see me coming from the car park.
  • The PB to beat is 25:57. That was set as a human.
  • Five a day. This counts as one.
